Learning Objectives: (1) Define Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) (2) Discuss Trauma Responses and Red Flags (3) Identify Supports and Resources for Coaches in Protecting and Reporting. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact over half of children before the age of 18 and this includes student-athletes. Although athletes are often expected to excel and push themselves physically and mentally, trauma takes a toll and can have life-long consequences. In this training, we will define trauma and ACEs, discuss student-athlete responses to trauma and how to recognize them, and identify your role as a coach in providing support and resources for student-athletes in need.
