I used Wipebooks with my students to tackle equation word problems—a challenge that often feels intimidating for math learners. Not only did my students excel at the task, but they loved it too, and kept asking, "When can we do this again?"
Learning Objectives: (1) Define Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) (2) Discuss Trauma Responses and Red Flags (3) Identify Supports and Resources for Coaches in Protecting and Reporting. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) impact over half of children before the age of 18 and this includes student-athletes. Although athletes are often expected to excel and push themselves physically and mentally, trauma takes a toll and can have life-long consequences. In this training, we will define trauma and ACEs, discuss student-athlete responses to trauma and how to recognize them, and identify your role as a coach in providing support and resources for student-athletes in need.
This session will focus on YOU! We will work on recognizing our individual stressors/triggers and barriers to self-care. We will take a deeper look into time management strategies, coping mechanisms, mindfulness, and other tools to help us prioritize self-care, improve communication, and build connections with those around us. This session is appropriate for any staff member who is interested in understanding their own mental health better and learning basic ways to cope with stress/triggers.
